Creation Care and the Gospel:
Gathering Christians from across
the Middle East and North Africa
in prayer, action and stewardship
28 September – 2 October*, 2022
at the beautiful
Ajloun Baptist Conference Center
Ajloun, Jordan
[*Note that the conference itself will be one day shorter than originally planned (now 28 Sept-1 Oct); a trip to visit Jesus' baptismal site will be offered as an extra-day, extra cost option on 2 Oct. See updated cost figures below]
WHAT IS THE CONFERENCE?
The conference looks at today's ecological crises through a Biblical lens, bringing clear theology, good science, and practical wisdom together. It starts from the assumption that to say ‘Jesus is Lord’ means recognising his Lordship over the earth and oceans and all that lives in them, because “creation care is a gospel issue within the Lordship of Christ”*.
This conference is the last planned conference in the Lausanne/WEA Creation Care Network's Global Campaign for Creation Care and the Gospel. There have been 11 previous regional conferences, with delegates from over 120 countries, and we have saved the best for last! Now is the time for the Middle East and North Africa to come together around this important issue.
*Lausanne Cape Town Commitment, 2010.
WHO IS IT FOR?
All Christians in leadership: pastors, lecturers, business leaders, youth ministers, students, mission personnel, parents: anybody who follows Jesus and cares about the future! The crises in the climate, access to food and water, desertification, biodiversity loss, waste and pollution and resource depletion affect all of us in every sphere of work. A thoughtful and prayerful Christian response is essential. In this region we especially welcome both national Christians and those who work in the region.
WHAT DOES IT AIM TO ACHIEVE?
Our vision is to inspire national creation care movements, so that Christians come to be known as good stewards of God's earth, and creation care becomes integral to our discipleship and mission. We will be
- sharing existing good practice and resources,
- discussing how to initiate and sustain projects,
- encouraging networking between organisations and individuals, and
- helping build a movement for transformation.
Whilst we sit at the crossroads of Climate Action, we have a unique opportunity to engage in the issue in the Middle East, as both this year’s COP27 (Egypt) and next year COP28 (Dubai) are being held in the region. All of this will be surrounded by worship and prayer, as we seek God's kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
WHO IS INVOLVED?
The global mission networks for evangelical Christians the Lausanne Movement and the World Evangelical Alliance, are supporting this conference, and two Lausanne Catalysts for Creation Care, the Rev. Ed Brown and the Rev. Dr Dave Bookless will be speakers, along with well – respected bible scholars, scientists, businesspeople, and mission leaders from across the region. A Rocha International, the leading global movement of Christians involved in Creation Care is heavily involved, along with support from Tearfund and the Anglican Alliance.
